GANG VIOLENCE & CRIME PREVENTION

EAST COUNTY GANG TASK FORCE
“Gang members are stealing, shooting and killing at an alarming rate,” as published in the CONTRA COSTA TIMES. Together, with the help of my office, East County has formed its first task force to combat gang violence in our end of the county.

FIRST-EVER EAST COUNTY GANG PREVENTION SUMMIT
Sponsored by my office and the East County Gang Task Force, more than 400 young people, parents, educators, youth service providers, coaches, police officers, recreation directors and community leaders attended East County’s first-ever Gang Prevention Summit.

COACHING BOYS INTO MEN–PREVENTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Law enforcement is seeing increased incidences of domestic violence in all our communities. A great program that I have co-sponsored with the Antioch Christian Center, STAND! Against Domestic Violence and other groups, is our “Coaching Boys into Men” project. Ours is one of five statewide projects reaching out to teenage boys and young men in our community. Together, we are hoping to prevent future forms of domestic violence by teaching young men to respect women.

CAMPAIGN URGES RESPECT FOR WOMEN
“They and other officials said the campaign is the first they have seen that focuses on instilling good values toward girls and women in boys when they’re young. So much of the effort involving domestic violence, said county Supervisor Federal Glover, comes after the fact, not before. ‘One of the things that we have missed over time,’ he (Glover) said, ‘is the preventative piece.’”
