YOUTH AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
5th ANNUAL CONTRA COSTA COUNTY YOUTH SUMMIT
I sponsor this conference for East County youth every year so that school board members, law enforcement, and community leaders can get together with our youth to listen to their concerns to better support the youth in our community. In addition, we offer career information, workshops that promote self-evaluation and growth, entertainment, physical activities, social interaction and food. CHILD ABUSE DETECTION AND PREVENTION
Last year we had two incidents where children in foster care died from being abused or neglected. I led the effort to tighten the monitoring of all of our foster children, and now we have instituted official “warning signs” which MUST be reported by Child Services and Health Services to ensure the safety of all of our foster children. One of my biggest priorities has been supporting and sponsoring after school, vacation and summer programs for East County youth. It is a proven fact that children involved in recreational and other programs stay out of trouble. Since I was elected to office, I have sponsored dozens of after school, tutoring, and mentoring programs. I have supported organized sports leagues, weekend activities for kids, “Get Fit” programs, summer camp opportunities and reading programs for East County kids. |
