  10. Co-sponsoring the Get Fit program in East County middle schools encouraging kids to walk or run one mile a day.
  11. Initiating the East County Youth Summit for the 5th year to give youth an opportunity to vent, to learn, to grow and to have a day of fun together.
  12. Co-sponsoring with Senator Torlakson the first Mortgage Foreclosure workshop to provide resources for East County families fearing the loss of their homes.
  13. Assisting 799 East County residents and their families in resolving problems with “government red tape”.
  14. Organizing official “clean up” days in Bay Point and Bethel Island for residents to dispose of unwanted garbage, tires and recyclable e-waste.
  15. Initiating the first-ever Building Communities Forum to get East County leaders and residents together to address crime, housing and other important area issues.
  16. Helping an Antioch resident, whose unlicensed contractor stole $137,000, to seek redress through the District Attorney’s Office.
  17. Authoring the Vessel Ordinance to give the Sheriff the ability to clean up dilapidated and abandoned boats on the Delta.
  18. Refurbishing the seats for the El Campanil Theatre in Antioch.
  19. Establishing a County health clinic at Riverview Middle School on Pacifica Avenue in Bay Point.
  20. Helping an East County mother with getting health benefits reinstated for her sick son who has asthma.
  21. Providing the funding to pay for crossing guards for three years at Bay Point schools.
  22. Killing the proposal to build a prison in Antioch or anywhere in Contra Costa County.
  23. Helping to pay for lunches at Stoneman Village for area seniors.
  24. Experiencing the joy of delivering meals and conversing with senior citizens through the Meals on Wheels program.
  25. Working with the Deputy Sheriffs and local firefighters to provide free child identification kits for East County parents.
  26. Strengthening the County’s policy and “warning signs” for social workers to report child abuse in foster homes.
  27. Getting an East County landlord to clean up “black mold” in an apartment that was making the renters ill.
  28. Offering free grant writing training and resources for over 100 nonprofit groups looking to apply for community funds so they can continue to serve our community.
  29. Providing free dental services to children age 2 to 19 in Bay Point.
  30. Helping fund the Antioch Rivertown Jamboree.
  31. Assisting East County victims of domestic violence with legal advice so they can escape abuse and move to a safe environment.
  32. Funding a School Resource Officer who is the Oakley Police Department’s visible law enforcement officer at Freedom High School in Oakley.
  33. Sponsoring the East County Midnight Basketball League which keeps young people out of trouble during the late night hours when criminal activities are high.
  34. Saving the lives of dozens of cats that were reproducing in one East County home, working with Animal Control to treat the ill cats and find safe, adopted homes.
  35. Supplementing the Deputy Sheriffs’ budget by providing full-time deputies to Bay Point residents to police the community and prevent crime.
  36. Implementing the East County Juvenile Drug Court Program offering substance abuse treatment for under-age minors.
  37. Working with the Contra Costa County Library to offer nine workshops offered by the Princeton Review to prepare college-bound students for taking the SAT test.
  38. Sponsoring Challenge Day at Deer Valley High School in Antioch to inspire students to accept and respect one another rather than participate in “peer bullying.”
  39. Sponsoring the Proud Father Program which offers job training, parenting skills and anger management for fathers living in Bay Point, Pittsburg and Antioch.
  40. Raising funds to help neuter dogs and cats and provide free and low-cost vaccination clinics for East County residents.
  41. Contributing to the purchase of updated science lab equipment for the new science building currently under construction at Los Medanos College.
  42. Locating the necessary funds to pay for the creation of new sidewalks in Bay Point neighborhoods.
  43. Finding housing and job training for a Katrina victim who relocated to East County.
  44. Giving away 500 Thanksgiving turkeys a year for 6 years (3,000 turkeys) to needy families in East County.
  45. Being a “First Five” Commissioner and helping to establish preschools for families throughout East County.
  46. Proudly serving as a key-note speaker at Martin Luther King Day celebrations throughout East County.
  47. Turning the closed Los Medanos Hospital into a community health clinic accessible to all East County residents.

  54. Helping an East County resident with diabetes whose health care was discontinued in error.
  55. Sponsoring with the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch a series of 5 free summer concerts for families, parents and their children.
  56. Organizing with former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla East County’s first Women’s Health Summit.
  57. Co-sponsoring with the City of Oakley the Oakley Science Week, a week-long program of science education and activities for children and their families.
  58. Strengthening our disaster preparedness by sponsoring Emergency Response Training for East County citizens at Los Medanos College.
  59. Advocating for the Seniors for Children intergenerational mentoring program to give 100 at-risk youth the benefits of being mentored by East County seniors.
  60. Locating resources to support the Opportunity Junction program which teaches computer skills to men and women who have been laid-off of their jobs and who need re-training.
  61. Offering free applications for East County homeowners to apply for a reduction in their yearly property taxes.
  62. Supporting the City of Oakley in its annexation of the Cypress Road corridor into the city limits.
  63. Bringing all the East County cities and communities together as the “Delta 6” to look for solutions to regional problems.
  64. Initiating the East County Aids/HIV Task Force to offer support to families affected by Aids and to work on Aids prevention.
  65. Sponsoring the Accept No Boundaries program which sends East County youth to Yosemite each year.
  66. Contributing $5,000 each year to the Ambrose Teen Center for Bay Point youth ages 12 to 18 years to participate in structured, safe activities.
  67. Backing the Child Abuse Prevention Council’s program to give hands-on parenting education and mentoring to new East County mothers.
  68. Providing recreational opportunities to East County children with special needs through the Every Day is a Special Day program.
  69. Financing the East County Beautification Program, which does roadside cleanup, removal of abandoned garbage and tree planting.
  70. Co-sponsoring with the Sheriff’s Office the annual Holiday Dinner and Toy Giveaway for needy families at Christmas.
  71. Conducting workshops through the Contra Costa County Library to teach children between 3 and 5 years of age about animals and animal-care.
  72. Offering after-school tutoring from credentialed teachers for East County youth through the Success through Self Academy.
  73. Providing medical interpreters, health educators and advocates for Spanish-speaking women who are trying to access health care.
  74. Sponsoring the Delta Bay Buccaneers’ Pop Warner Football program for youth 7 to 14 years of age.
  75. Sponsoring the East County Kids N Motion dance organization which promotes youth activities that instill morals, values, self-esteem, discipline, and diversity through freedom of artistic dance and parental guidance.
  76. Helping the Woman’s Club of Antioch sponsor a once-a-week yoga class for East County Multiple Sclerosis patients.
  77. Helping build 9 single-family homes for families with limited incomes with the organization Habitat for Humanity East Bay.
  78. Working with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District in supporting its Afterschool4all program which provides after-school activities for 8,700 students.
  79. Offering substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment for East County youth, parents, schools, businesses and other organizations.
  80. Getting 100% behind the One Day at a Time program to help teens who are at risk of becoming involved with gangs improve their lives.
  81. Replacing the roof on the Pacific Community Services building which houses community meetings and events for all of East County.
  82. Providing resources for the Bay Point Community Career Center that helps unemployed and under-employed residents move up the career ladder.
  83. Getting behind the Youth Achievement and Possibilities program (YAP/Gap) which offers children of working parents structured activities during the summer and school holidays.
  84. Helping fund the Soroptimist Reading Project which fosters the promotion of literacy in our community.
  85. Providing ongoing support for Antioch’s Todos Unidos’ Linking the Generations program to provide community services for Latinos in East County.
  86. Working with the City of Oakley to provide safe after-school activities for students on campus at O’Hara Park Middle School and Delta Vista Middle School.
  87. Co-sponsoring the Pittsburg Police Department’s undercover program to combat visible drug dealing, gang activity and prostitution.
  88. Providing code enforcement and building inspection staff to help clean up abandoned, boarded up, vacant or any other building used for improper or illegal activities in the community.
  89. Sponsoring the Contra Costa County Library Teen Read program where teens read a total of 15 hours and write a short book review to win prizes.
  90. Serving as a resource for the Cali House Youth Shelter to help runaway and homeless youth.
  91. Contributing to the Deer Valley High School Educational Advancement Foundation which promotes academic growth and excellence in Antioch students.
  92. Being a strong promoter of the Eddie Hart Olympian Track and Field Clinic where past Olympians and World Record Holders train youth, help them lose weight and develop better health and nutritional habits.
  93. Participating in the Give Always to Others senior citizen arts and crafts program.
  94. Sponsoring Antioch’s Kids Without Christmas program for 60 East County families with children from newborn to 12 years of age.
  95. Providing computers for the Ambrose Recreation and Park District’s computer lab that is open to the general public.
  96. Raising funds to rebuild the Antioch’s Babe Ruth Baseball League’s snack bar.
  97. Improving the baseball fields for Antioch’s East County Baseball Group.
  98. Helping to raise funds to pay for young people to attend the East Bay’s Future Leaders of America Leadership Camp.
  99. Being a yearly supporter of the Homeless Animals Lifeline Organization (HALO) which offers pet adoption and volunteer services for East County dogs and cats.
